A long weekend away in #TrailTownSA, arguably the capital of destination mountain biking in South Africa. The goal, along with the Knysna Sports School who are developing and building trails, is to make Knysna Bull the No.1 ride every year.
Prologue – 5km @150m Ascent
The long summer evenings in Knysna present a unique ride and start to the event.
Arrive in Knysna early afternoon and set out for a lagoon-side prologue to sort the Herd ahead of Trail Stage 1.
Trail Stage 1 – 72km @1400m Ascent
Elephants and rivers, forests and fields – and it’s just the start of day 1
Start at a reasonable hour at the Knysna Elephant park heading on a magical route for between 4 to 6 hours depending on how hard you pedal. Thesen Island the ultimate destination – your race village awaits and after a superb lunch the afternoon is yours to enjoy with friends and family.

Trail Stage 2 – 69km @1300m Ascent
A showcase of trail riding and a blur through forgotten indigenous forest
Day 2 showcases the diversity of Knysna riding. The first half is for the climbers as the ascent starts from the gun taking you to magical panoramic views of the Outeniqua Mountains. Gravity is your friend when you turn for home and are rewarded with arguably the races most underrated single track, forgotten forestry roads and dairy farming traverses. Phantom Pass delivers you back to sea level and a rewarding finish around the lagoon edge.
