PowerBar was created by athletes, for athletes. We started PowerBar® to help athletes reach their goals by providing nutrition tools for optimum athletic performance. All of our products are backed by decades of leading edge sports nutrition science and innovation and always live up to our highest standards. We aim to meet the nutrition and energy needs of all athletes, from world-class champions and dedicated amateurs, to beginners and those who just want to improve. For more than 25 years we’ve worked non-stop to develop even better products, always based on the latest scientific findings. We serve both world-class pros and ambitious amateur athletes. Because they all have one thing in common: they want to improve and to exceed their limits. To do this, they need energy. And that’s what we provide.
We have made our own history. Now it’s your turn.
In 1983, a Canadian endurance athlete surrendered the lead in a marathon because he suddenly collapsed 10 kilometres from the finish line. The reason? His energy tanks were spent.
So, together with a nutrition scientist, he began to research how to create the ideal energy supply for athletes.
Three years later and after hundreds of recipes for the ideal mix of carbohydrates, vitamins and protein, he founded the PowerBar Inc company in Berkley, California.
The very first products were the PowerBar energy bar, in chocolate and malt nut flavours.
The word on PowerBar gradually spread throughout the athlete scene.
Ironman competitors were trying out the bars, and American cyclists at the 1987 Tour de France saw the bars as their secret weapon in terms of refuelling. PowerBar soon became available in 35 countries.
PowerBar was taken over by Nestlé. Over the last 14 years, the world’s largest food company has brought its expertise in product development and quality standards to bear on our product portfolio.
The product range is constantly expanding, getting even better and meets the highest quality standards.
Almost 30 years after the company was created, one factor still makes PowerBar stand out: its innovation. And ahead of the new season, we are introducing the world’s first ever energy wafer to the market – the Energize Wafer.
